Private commissions
A work for a particular space
A commission is a work developed for one client, one setting or one designer's vision. It begins with a brief, not a menu of options, and each is individually quoted.
What a commission can be
A single work or a group of works, made for a room, a surface or a collection. Within the studio's established lamp construction, a commission can set the material, the composition, the orientation and the scale of the work, and how it is presented.
You are commissioning Jonathan Amann's interpretation of your brief. A new kind of reservoir, an enclosure or an unusual flame arrangement is development work, scoped and quoted on its own.
How it works
- 01
The brief
Send the setting, the space available, the atmosphere you want, your budget and timing. The studio replies to discuss whether the project suits it, and whether a real flame suits the place you have in mind.
- 02
The design phase
When it does, the studio proposes a defined design phase. What it delivers, how many revisions it includes, its fee, and whether that fee counts toward the work are agreed in writing for each project before it starts.
- 03
Approval
Before material is bought or making begins, you approve a proposal for the object itself: the specimen or how it will be sourced, dimensions, finish, delivery, price and payment stages.
- 04
Making and delivery
How you are kept informed while the work is made, and what travels with it, are set out in the approved proposal. Specialist packing, freight or installation are quoted separately when a work needs them.
Natural material
Stone is found, not made to order. A sketch or concept shows a direction; it cannot promise a particular specimen, color or effect. How a specimen that fails inspection, or is damaged while it is being worked, will be handled is agreed in the proposal before making begins.
Flame and placement
Every commission is assessed for where its flame will sit: the surface beneath it, the clearance above and around it, its stability and access for refilling. The studio will suggest changes to a placement that does not suit an open flame, or decline it. The care guide sets out how every Glowstone is used.
